Saraswati Yoga

Saraswati Yoga

When following three conditions are fulfilled

1) Jupiter, Venus and Mercury are in Quadrants, Trine or in Second house from Lagna,
2) Jupiter is exalted or in own house
3) Lagna is strong and well placed

Then the person is a blessed with "Guna" of saraswati. Such persons are very good poet, mathematician, speaker, intelligent, well known in society. But for fulfillment of this Yoga all the planets involved should be strong and well placed.

Jupiter gives intelligence, good memory, sattvic approach to education. Mercury gives learning ability, mathematical ability, good analytical and logical abilities and venus blesses one with passion, creativity, arts and enjoyment. Which ability will be dominated in the person having above yoga depends on positions of planets and strength of the planets.

Types of Drekkana Varga (D-3 Divisional chart)

Types of Drekkana Varga (D-3 Divisional chart)

Drekkana Varga or D-3 divisional chart is one of the common charts used for predicting about siblings of a person. But this is a very less known and ever lesser discussed fact that there are four types of Drekkana charts described in different texts. These four types are calculated by different methods. I do not know the exact methods to calculate them but you can get them in "Jagannath hora Astrology Software" (commonly known as jhora) by right clicking on the chart > select Parashari Drekkana > Right click on same chart again > Choose Drekkana > Select the type you want. J hora is the best software that calculate these types for you very precisely (I don't know whether anyother software do this or not).

As I told you I donot know the exact methods to calculate them, but I will like to discuss the importance of these different drekkanas. All these Drekkanas show different aspects of life.

These four types of Drekkanas are as follows:

1) Parashari Drekkana
2) Jagannath Drekkana
3) Somnath Drekkana
4) Pravritti-traya Drekkana

1) Parashari Drekkana: This is the most commonly used Drekkana in Vedic astrology. Infact when you read about drekkana anywhere without specific reference then it is understood that the author is refering to this drekkana by default. Parashari Drekkana is used to know about the sibling of a person. Like how many siblings does the person have, what are the sex of those siblings, what does this these siblings do (obviously in a crude manner), and gross luck of those siblings and other aspects related to siblings.

2) Jagannath drekkana: This Drekkana reflect karma of previous life of a person. This drekkana describes the previous life karma of a person in a very physical manner. D-60 analysis must also be used along with it. This drekkan is used to know what karmic load a person is carrying (Obviously D-60 must also be used along with this)

3) Somnath Drekkana: Somnath Drekkana is used to know about the sexual drive of a person. This describes the attitude of a person towards the sexual matters, his libido and his attraction towards the subject.

4) Pravritti-traya Drekkana: This chart is used to see the drives and initiatives that leads the person to apply it's determination toward a specific subject. It tells about the direction where a person will put his efforts and where will he apply his intelligence and determination.

If you have any further query or want to know more about these types feel free to email or leave a comment here.

Kind regards

Rashi Drishti

Rashi Drishti

The aspect one sign sheds on other signs is called "Rashi Drishti" or "Sign Aspect". In BPHS Rashi Drishti is explained before Graha Drishti. clearly indicating it's importance over Graha Drishti. But unfortunately it is one of the least discussed topic on internet and all leading astrology forums. Rashi Drishti is important because of following factors.

a) Rashi drishti affects a house whole lifetime of native. It leaves a permanent effect on a house since the time birth happens and till the end. While Argala (House aspects) and Graha Drishti (Planetary aspects) are temporary effects which are activated during Dasha-Antar dasha of that particular planet (In most of the cases).

b) It's effects are independent from Transits and Dasha-Anstar Dasha. While Argala and Graha Drishti is dependent on them.

c) These work equally well in both Rashi and Divisional charts and carry equal importance in all Divisional charts (Shodashvarga).

d) Rashi Drishti also carries characteristics of the planets residing in them.

In simple Language, following principles applies while considering Rashi Drishti. We will try to illustrate these with pictorial examples.

1) All Moveable signs (Char Rashis - Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricon) aspect Fixed Signs (Sthir Rashis - Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) except the sign next (adjacent) to it.

2) All Fixed Signs (Sthir Rashis - Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius) aspect Moveable signs (Char Rashis - Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricon) except the sign next (adjacent) to it.

3) All Dual signs (DviSwabhawa Rashis - Gemini, Virgo, Sagitarius, Pisces) aspect each other.

4) These principles applies to Divisional charts as well.

5) Rashi Drishti carry the properties of planets residing in them.

6) Rashi drishti have a permanent influence irrespective of Dasha-Antardasha of planet.

Avasthas: Deeptaadi Avastha

Dear Friends,

I am sorry for the delay in this post. This was purely due to lack of time. In coming time I may not be as pucntual in posting due to some time strains but I will try to post as frequently as possible. Although I will be available in forum as usual. In coming posts I will like to discuss Argala, Rashi Drishti and Divisional charts. Which will be followed by Example charts. I am highly thankful for your support and feedback, keep emailing me, they encourage me. If you want to discuss any specific chart in blog or forum please send me the Birth details and aspect to be discussed to my email:

Let's continue with the avasthas

3) Deeptaadi Avastha

This avastha is based on the relationships of a planet in a particular chart. i.e temporary relationships and compound relation ships based on the position of planets in the chart. These avasthas indicate the energy or resources a planet have to express itself in the chart.

These are of nine types, as follows:

1) Deepta
2) Swastha

5) Deena
6) Vikala

In this state effects of planets are felt considerably although they are lesser as compared to Swastha avastha. In layman's language we can roughly say that it can give 75% of results (Although this grading is not scientific and not recommended for serious astrologers).

4) Shaanta Avastha: When a planet is in friend's sign then planet is said to be in Shaanta avastha (calm state). In Shaanta avastha planet is calm.

Avasthas from 1 to 4 are considered good for a planet's placement in decending order from 1 to 4th

Deen Avastha is considered neutral for a planet's placement.

Avasthas from 6-9 are considered bad for a planet's placement in ascending order.

Avasthas: Jaagritaadi Avasthas

Jaagritaadi Avasthas

This avastha is based on the natural relationship of a planet with other planets and position of a planet in a house. A planet can have a friendly, neutral or inmical relation with other planet. A planet can be in own house or other planet's house. Based on these

2) Swapna Avastha (Dreaming)
3) Sushupta Awastha (Sleeping)

These avasthas can be explained as follows,

1) Jaagrit Awastha: When a planet is in own house or is exalted then a planet is said to be in Jaagrit awastha. As the name suggest, planet is considered awake means that he is fully concious and exhibit satwik properties, planet is capable of giving it's results to it's full capacity.

Avasthas of planets: Baal adi avastha

Various Avasthas of planets have been described. Avasthas are the states of a planet which

are to be considered in the context of the effects of the Planets.

Baal Adi Avasthas

Five types of Avasthas are explained in BPHS

1) Baal (Infant)
2) Kumar (young Kid)
3) Yuva (Adoloscent/Young)
4) Vriddh (Old)
5) Mrit (Dead)

These Avasthas (Baal adi avasthas) are described on the basis of their position in the house they are situated in. Each house is divided in five parts of six degrees each.

Counting of baal adi avasthas are started forward from begining of house in odd Signs and backward from end in even signs.

In simple language, In odd signs they rule each part in sequence, whereas in even signs the
sequence is reversed.

Below is the table of baal adi avasthas in simplest

Baal (Infant): 1-6 degrees for odd signs, 25-30 degrees for even signs,
Kumar (young Kid): 7-12 degrees for odd signs, 19-24 degrees for even signs,
Yuva (Adoloscent/Young): 13-18 degrees for odd signs, 13-18 degrees for even signs,
Vriddh (Old): 19-24 degrees for odd signs, 7-12 degrees for even signs,
Mrit (Dead): 25-30 degrees for odd signs, 1-6 degrees for even signs,

Results of these Avasthas:

These avasthas serve two purpose. First is the grade of result and second is the timing of result.

By "Grade of Result of a planet" we means to what intensity or with which strength the effects of planets will be evident. BPHS explains this as below.

Baal (Infant) - one fourth (1/4 of total strength)
Kumar (young Kid) - half (1/2 of total strength)
Yuva (Adoloscent/Young) - Full (with full strength)
Vriddh (Old) - Neglibile (Minimal effects will be evident)
Mrit (Dead) - Nil (Virtually no result of the planet may be evident)

By "Timing of results" we mean “when” the graha will give the results. The planet in baal avastha will give results too early and within some time of starting it's dasha period.

While Planet in mrita avastha graha may give results too late during it's dasa period.

Essence of Astrology - 1

In "Astrology of the Seers" a point is clearly emphasized:

"--The essence of astrology is in understanding the meaning of the planets. The meaning of the signs, houses, aspects and other astrological factors is determined by the planets which rule and significate them. Astrology is nothing but the science of the planets, as the forces of the stars are governed by and manifest through them.--"

Let us refresh our memory by revising the basic properties of planets written in all text books, in the very first pages and chapters which we tend to overturn and ignore.

As First house indicate our Self, Personality, intelligence, psychology. We take note of these basic properties in this context.

In BPHS it is written:

"14-15. Grah cabinet. Of royal status are Surya and Candr, while Mangal is the Army chief. Prince-apparent is Budh. The ministerial Grahas are Guru and Sukr. Sani is a servant. Rahu and Ketu form the Grah Army.

So, People who are influenced by Sun will have the characteristics of the King, (how many and which one will be decided by the degree of the Sun in house and strength of the Sun, the star the sun is and so on. Similarly taking note of following characteristics we can determine the complexion, psychology, intelligence, thinking, temperament, guna (Sattva, raja tama) pradhanta, element (Panch mahabhut) dominance in a person's personality.

Obviously, the resultant should be calculated based on the the degree of the planet in house and strength of the Planet, avastha of planet, the star the planet is and so on.

Another notable point is that in cases where multiple planets are having effect, the resultant personality will show added features of all planets, and again which planet will give which characteristic and how much of that characteristic will be dependent on the relative strength of planets, avasthas, postion and all other factors which influence result of a planet.

Below, we will see other characteristics of planets. We can clearly see these characteristics in the persons who are influenced by specific planet. I emphasize that we should not only learn the word that is used here to characteristic, instead what mean that specific mord means and what characteristics that word denote.

For example, When we say that Sun denotes King and a person influenced by Sun will have characteristics of a king, then it is automatically understood that the person influenced by sun will be authoratarian, hot tempered, justice lover, like to give opinion, is a leader and brave, courageous etc. Similarly qualities of a queen should be imagined in a person being influenced by Moon and so on.
