First House: It's Significations and General effects

Every house in a chart signifies different aspect of our life. Studying a house tells us what results we will be getting in regards to aspects related with that particular house.

When studying a house we take notice of following factors

1) The House

2) The Lord of the house

3) Occupants of the house

4) Karaka of the house

5) Planets aspecting the house

SIGNIFICATIONS OF THE FIRST HOUSE

First House signifies Self, Personality, General Health, Physical constitution, Fame, intelligence. In Sanskrit it is called "Tanu Bhava" Which means "Body". This house signifies body as a whole. First house help us analyse how a person will put himsel in public, what his social status, general appearance, pearsonality and image will be in public especially family and friends. THis house is most important hosue of chart. Because It affects all other houses of the chart directly or indirectly, there is no need to explain why.

It signifies our strengths and weaknesses, our psyche/psychology at a general level and our tolerance and adjusting capabilities in society at a very general level. It's association with different houses gives us different fruits, like with 6th or 8th it gives us diseases and enemies, with ninth it shows spiritual enlightment and so on.

In BPHS it is written:

"Maharishi Parashar replies. Physique, appearance, intellect (or the organ of intelligence, i.e. brain), complexion of the body, vigour, weakness, happiness, grief and innate nature are all to be guessed through the ascending Rasi."

In Medical Astrology, First house denotes Head, brain and forehead. In Ayurvedic context it denotes bones and Pitta

Dosha and Satva Guna. In Relation first House signifies Self, Father's mother and Mother's father. It's Karak is Sun and it conincides with the Aries sign.

EFFECTS OF FIRST HOUSE

Generally, If First house Lord is in conjunction with 6Lord, 8L, 12L Or is related with 6House, 8H, 12H by any other mean then the native's physical comforts will decrease. If it is in an angle (1H,4H,7H,10H) or Trine (5H,9H) then the person will have all body comforts. If First lord is Debilitated, Combusted, In enemy's house, with enemy or is afflicted then person will lack physical discomforts.

If First house is occupied by benefic the person will have pleasing personality and looks and if malefics occupy Lagna person will be devoid of good looks.

These positions are not only affect Physical Health but affects other aspects like fame, intelligence, appearance, etc. Obviuosly, the intensity of the results are dependent on strength of house (Bhav bal), Planet (Shad bal), Position and aspects on the planet and house. The more favourable these factors will be more better effect we will witness and vice versa.
